The Night-Mare is a grounded historical fiction novella set in the European Theater of World War II, built around a fictional single-aircraft prototype — a carrier-based night fighter designated the P-50 Night-Mare. It follows one experimental plane through a classified testing program, and the pilot who flew her on one unsanctioned mission.
The story is written in the same spirit as the long-form aviation history on this site: grounded in real WWII carrier operations and aircraft technology, with the freedom of fiction to imagine what a classified program built around a single prototype might have looked like from the cockpit.
